Yep-D 2018 aims nurturing the skills of policy analysis, collective decision making and
professional communication while keeping the global economic linkages at the center, the
series brings together undergraduate and early graduate students to elaborate a different set of
scenarios every year. It maintains a goal-oriented attitude on the side of the participants, which
often is a missing asset at the beginning of a young professional’s career cycle. Skills related to
intellectual/professional discussion, decision making under tight constraints and effective
reporting have thoroughly been considered. By bringing together the spirit of “hackathons” of
computer science and a collection of challenging policy questions of economics, Yep-D 2018
emulates an experience close to real-life.
Organization Background
Young Economic Policy Designers Workshop (Yep-D) series gathered for the first time
with the support of the U.S. Embassy Ankara (Alumni Small Grant: S-TU-150-16-GR-025) in
2016 in Ankara. Aiming at nurturing the skills of policy analysis, collective decision making
and professional communication while keeping the global economic linkages at the center, the
series brings together undergraduate and early graduate students to elaborate a different set of
scenarios every year. In 2017, the second of the series allowed a salutary expansion of
participants from 30 to 60 under the improved support of the U.S. Embassy Ankara (Large
Grant: S-TU-150-16-GR-082). In that, the geographical and institutional coverage of the series
developed in a significant manner.

After the 2017 instance of the event, “Young Economic Policy Designers” has been
registered with the short name “Yep-D” to Turkish Patent and Trademark Office under the
number of 2017/99433 on March 7th, 2018.
